Description
Direct Circuit Switching for Akida’s wattGAUGE and e-LOK systems
This panel offers the maximum functionality of Akida’s technology. The housing is a metal or plastic UL certified, panel that contains a printed circuit board based monitoring, analysis and communication system. The circuit board is powered by a 110V source which is converted into a 6V DC supply by an on-board, UL listed transformer. There are up to 12, UL listed, 40A rated, relays on the circuit board that are wired externally with 10-gauge wire to terminal blocks. Up to 12, 40A loads can be connected to the panel at the terminal blocks by re-routing wiring after the circuit breaker at the existing electrical service panel; similar to the installation of commercially available load controllers. The relays are activated by a low-voltage signal from the circuit board to turn the controlled load on or off. The installation of this panel requires all existing circuit breakers to remain functional. Note that the high amperage, high voltage load does not run through the circuit board and is restricted to the external, appropriately rated wiring. The Energy Management Panel is available in 1, 4, 8 and 12 load configurations with the panel width increasing as more relays are provided. The panel has on-board FCC compliant radios for wireless communication.
- Overview
- The product uses current transformer (CT) sensing technology to detect and monitor the electricity in a power cable. The on board TARAS digital energy metering cards (pat. 7555365) are able to translate the readings from the CT coils into values for power (Watts), frequency, voltage & current. This data is then relayed to an on-board Energy Gateway processor that uses the system software to provide analysis and communication to execute decisions to turn loads on and off. The on-board, UL listed relays when wired to the monitored loads can receive a low voltage signal to turn the loads on and off. The EMP, when integrated into a system such as e-LOK will help in understanding of the cost of operating electrical equipment/appliances in a building and help the user manage consumption and therefore save on energy costs.

Energy Gateway Processor – EMP-4
The Energy Gateway processor features a 250MHz Cavium ARM9 CPU and a 5000 LUT Lattice FPGA. With 64MB RAM, a bootable 4MB on-board flash, and a micro SD card slot, it is a powerful and flexible embedded solution. External devices can connect to the processor via Ethernet, USB host, USB device, or I2C ports as well as DIO, UARTs, and SPI, which are implemented in the standard FPGA load. Using just under 400mA at 5V, the Energy Gateway processor places minimal burden on the EMP system.
The standard Energy Gateway processor configuration implements the following features:
Micro SD card access
Up to 8 UARTs (XUARTs*)
SPI
Watchdog timer
Up to 33 DIO lines
* XUART core is an extended UART core supporting 7, 8, 9, or 10 bits per character, Tx and Rx FIFOs 256+ characters deep, and accurate measurement of idle and busy times. These ports support advanced protocols such as DMX/RDM. There is also one serial port in the CPU for a total of 9 serial ports.
