on-the-spot digital electrical metering and display
Description
Akida’s u-METER is a stand-alone device for measuring power. It utilizes a base level implementation of our TARAS technology and is basically a gauge for measuring the power in existing electrical wiring. It was developed to meet a demand for an affordable device for measuring power – whether it is being generated (for example a solar panel array) or consumed (for example a water heater). The u-METER is designed to be installed in parallel to a load with no electrical connectivity wherein the high amperage, high voltage load does not run through the unit. It is powered by an external, UL listed transformer, which converts a 110V source into a 6V AC supply. The unit is housed in a UL rated plastic case and contains a printed circuit board based monitoring and analysis system and communicates using a LCD screen. The unit has connectors where low voltage cables are attached to feed signals from external coils to take external measurements from existing electrical wiring and there are no relays for load management. A qualified cabling technician can install the unit in minutes and the unit will provide a digital readout of the power measured at that point. When no system integration or control capability is needed and all that is required is an energy reading, the u-METER is the most cost effective solution. Our customers have requested this unit when they could not justify the high cost of monitoring systems on solar panels and electrical manufacturing machines.
HOW THE u-METER WORKS
- Overview
- The product uses up to, two external current transformers (CT1 and CT 2) to detect and monitor the electricity in the power cables. The Unit can be installed to monitor two separate circuits or one two-phase circuit. The on board TARAS digital energy metering cards (pat. 7555365) are able to translate the readings from the CT coils into values for KW/hr Used, power (Watts), frequency, voltage & current. This data is then displayed on an LCD screen. The u-METER, will help in understanding of the cost of operating electrical equipment/appliances in a building and help the user save on energy costs.
